Dog!

If you had asked anyone they probably would have said we would never get a dog. Jack, our cat, helped us to see that we could be pet people with the right pet. Lilly has begged for a dog since she could talk. Max had asked for a dog for years but was satisfied when Jack came into our lives. We started thinking about getting a dog by researching what kind of dog IF we decided we could do it. A groomer, in the business for 30+ years said that the number one question she is asked is "Which breed is the best." She says if you are just trying to get an all around good family dog then she, hands down, recommends the Cavelier King Charles Spaniel. I read up on the breed and was pleasantly surprised that there were really never any downsides discussed. Everything about this breed is so positive. Very obedient. Plays happily but will sit on your lap contentedly. Doesn't bark much. Not a big shedder...(yes I said "shedder.") The list went on and on. Well, if we were to get a dog it sounds like this would be it. Then something happened.
Alan and I were at a charity gala where they had a live auction. One of the offerings? A black, Scotty puppy. He was so darn cute and my husband, MY HUSBAND, fell for him. My husband who said "we will NEVER get a dog!"

"I think we should bid on him," he said, with a glint in his eye. "WHAT?!" was my reply. "It's for charity," he quickly responded. I thought he was joking but up went his hand when the bidding began. It got down to two of us. Back and forth. I did not want a puppy. I was not ready to train a puppy! When it got to $700 I grabbed his arm and sweetly said, "No more, please."
This got me worried that my once anti-dog-husband could surprise me with a new puppy out of the blue. I started looking for grown dogs on KSL classifieds and on humane society websites. Caveliers are hard to come by. But one day, "Max" popped up on KSL. The family was going to be traveling extensively and they decided to find a good home rather than kennel their beloved dog. He is only a little over a year and a half old. He's sweet as can be. In fact he is everything described. Super obedient, sweet, loving, playful. Potty-trained...my favorite. And he has decided that I am the best thing since chew toys. He wants to please me so he does whatever I tell him. He follows me around non-stop. It feels good to have someone following my every order so willingly!
Of course, he couldn't keep the name "Max" so his new moniker is "Milton." It suits him.
He is deeply loved in his new home and we couldn't be happier! I never thought you would hear me say that about getting a dog!

Lilly and her best buddy, Carter...loving on Milton.
