Fair '11

Max and his smart bean.

Aren't these the prettiest Pinto beans you've ever seen!
We headed to the fair yesterday, in the rain, which might be the reason my cold has suddenly come back. We had a fun afternoon though. And ended the night at the PI Pizzeria. Fun memories already. But the best part of the whole outing? Looking at the blue ribbon Max won for his pinto beans! Every spring he chooses something to grow for the fair. This year his pinto beans grew beautifully and he was so excited to enter them in the fair. It took me 3 visits to the fair to get them entered, though! Well, the first trip was to enter his Lego creation (I should grab a picture of that.) He built a cool Lego "painting" on a Lego "easel." Fantastic. So I get there to enter his Lego thing and they inform me that this year they aren't taking Lego's. Bah! So I drive back the next week to enter the beans, since they weren't doing horticulture entries until then. The next Wednesday I drove back to enter the beans. Well, I only had 6 bean pods and a bunch of loose beans. I needed 10 bean pods! I drove home, picked more, and drove all the way back. What we do for love...of children, not beans.

If Lilly stood by an animal it always seemed to pop it's head up to look right at her.

This is a fluffy, Angora rabbit.

So fluffy!

This little calf was born at the fair.

The calf popped her around just to look at Lilly.

Little piggies.

Cuteness.

Lilly was the one that wanted to take this picture. She is so stubborn but won't verbalize what she wants. We had no idea that she was interested in being the top carrot until I took the first picture and she refused to join in the photo. She's a little punk.

A happy girl now that she has her way.

The kids spent their dollar choosing to get a glimpse of Big Al, the alligator from Bradenton, Florida (the same town Ginny, Lilly's birth-Mom, is from.)

Trying to follow this herd of ducks that were wearing clothes. You do see some weird things at the fair.

This ride was the first the kids went on. Alan and I just stood on the sidelines laughing. Lilly enjoyed this ride more than we've ever seen her enjoy a ride. She squealed with delight around ever turn. It was so cute!

Look at those cute faces!

This makes my heart sing since I'm so much more used to seeing them fighting!

This little girl was adorable and she and Lil seemed to be loving this ride...until  the last part of the ride. Lilly's passenger started a high pitched screaming. She was screaming with happiness but it was loud. Lilly didn't know what to think but she kept a smile on her face. When she got off she confided in me that she "really wanted to kick that girl in the face." HOLY COW! Sometimes I really do worry about my daughter. During the whole ride her face had a pleasant smile...but what was going on in her head was far from that! Oh boy, Lilly!

We've never been to the fair, but looks like my kids would love it! Maybe next year. And I don't blame Lily, I feel like kicking people in the face when they scream like that, too, often my own children. I'm maybe partially kidding. Ha ha!

Congrats, Max! Does he always win? That is so cool!
