I was reminded that I forgot to mention where the tooth went. It had slid down between the mattress and side board of the bed frame. It had perfectly fallen to a place no 7 year old would see but a worried Mother/tooth fairy would look. Helpful gravity :)

What a great story! My son tricked the tooth fairy once by not telling anyone he had lost a tooth. And proceeded to tell me he knew she wasn't real.
