I have to write about Normie's 70th birthday. It will bring a smile just thinking about it! Norm is our best friend Andy's Dad. There is no one on this Earth quite like Norm. He is eccentric, charming, crazy, personable, warm, and crazy (worth mentioning twice.) There were probably 60 people at this party, most of whom Norm knows. Norm invited anyone he ran into. Strangers, bar patrons, dental hygienists. His invitation alone, on our answering machine, was hilarious! "This ain't no punch and cookies deal but I hope you two will come anyway. You are as much a part of my family as anybody. It's at the Barbary Coast. There will be dancing on the bar but you can't take your shirt off, they don't have a license for that." He's completely serious when he says these things. Mickey, his adorable wife, was talking on the phone to someone about his party. Norm questioned her, "Who were you talking to?" "Not gonna tell, it was something about your party." "You better not have gotten me strippers! I told you they don't have a license for that kinda thing!" If you know Mickey this is the most laughable suggestion, that she would have hired strippers for her husbands birthday! It wouldn't even enter her mind. AND Norm has been married to her for going more than 40 years, wouldn't HE know this about her? But he is totally serious when he suggests his sweet wife could have hired strippers for her husband's 70th birthday!
Anyway, fun was had by all. There was indeed dancing on the bar. Norm wore one of his signature couture pieces of clothing. A bedazzled skull, ironed on the back of a black shirt. It was quintessential Norman.

too funny! I love seeing the pictures to go along with the story. :) He's just like I imagined him. Is that his wife on the bar with him? She is adorable! I see no bedazzeling on her though. :)
No, that woman is not his wife...although she IS adorable. His sweet wife would never dance on a bar top. She is also a red head, like the woman in the pic. But she is much more refined than her outrageous hubby. Opposites in almost every way!
