wild hare...or is it hair?

Monday morning. "Mom, I am really disappointed that we aren't going to Disneyland in October this year. That is my most favorite time and I can't stand that we aren't going.", said Max.
"Oh. I am sorry you are sad about it. Next year we can go in October, maybe. It just didn't work out this year. But, remember, we are going in January!"
Off to school he went. I went to shower and get ready for a PTA mtg. Alan wasn't feeling well so he was laying in bed while I talked to him from the shower. I relayed the above conversation to him and in the retelling it occurred to me that maybe we COULD go? Could we? Maybe Grandma could come with us? Alan said it sounded like a good idea (he was sick, though...he can't really be accountable for agreeing with my hair-brained idea!) I called my Mom and posed the crazy idea. "Do you wanna come to Disneyland? We'd leave this afternoon." "....um....what?...well, maybe....WHAT?!....OK! I'm in."
I took Max out of school early and told him what was happening. He didn't believe me but the look of incredulity and hope on his face was priceless. I was fully packed when I picked him up and we were off to get Grandma Sally. BUT...and I knew this would happen...when I told him Dad wouldn't be coming he refused to leave without his beloved Daddy. "NO! I will not go without my Dad!" We made a quick stop to hug Dad and show Daddy the big tears rolling down his kid's cheeks. After much weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth we were on the road. (Max was a little sad to eat the giant turkey leg without his Dad. That is their tradition. He also refused to go on Autopia, the rockets, or Tom Sawyer's Island since those are things he and Alan like to do together. Dad was definitely missed but we did manage to still have lots of fun!)My Mom and I kept looking at each other as we drove, "WHAT are we doing?!" I have always been spontaneous but this was out of the bounds of the spontaneous I was used to!
Rainy and chilly was what we encountered on our first Disney day (wednesday). But it was fun. Lots of fun. I had rented a motorized scooter for my Mom everyday but Friday. I got a wheelchair on Friday because I knew we wouldn't be there as many hours. We had 99 degree weather on Friday. Pushing my Mom in that heat was not so fun. Even Max was ready to end our adventure by noon. We got back on the road and arrived home Saturday evening. My Mom, who has M.S., said it was the most fun she has had in a long time. She said waking up every morning, in the hotel, knowing she was headed to Disneyland, gave her "something to live for!" Hearing that, I was happy I brought her along, but I was also worried what that said about her day-to-day life! It was fun that she got to go on rides with Max while I watched Lil. We really had fun! I don't know that I will do something this spontaneous again...but...much like childbirth (so I have heard) you forget the not-so-fun parts as more time passes. If you hear me mention something like this in the future maybe sit me down and give me a little slap. But, fun memories were made and I have no regrets. It's fun to shake things up once in a while. Once in a while.

Very, very brave. And how utterly fun! Too sweet that Max abstained from the traditions that he does with Alan.

I have way too many issues to be that spontaneous. I just about had a panic attack just reading this!
