San Diego Trip

We drove to California last week for our nephew's wedding. Jeremy and Whitney were married in the San Diego Temple on the 16Th. (This picture of them is during the ring ceremony they held for the family members that weren't in the temple.) Alan and I celebrated our 16Th wedding anniversary on the 15Th! It was a nice experience to be able to go to a wedding around our anniversary and be reminded of that sweet day, 16 years ago.
On our way down to San Diego we stopped for a night in Ventura. I had lived in Ventura at two separate times in my life. The latest was during my junior high and half of high school years. Moving around so much in my life has given me the opportunity to pick and choose the places I feel at "home". Ventura is one of those places. We had dinner with one of my friends, Dana. She then drove me around town and we reminisced about the old days, saw my house, etc... I also got to meet her teenage son and hear about her daughter in college! (I know...we are getting old!) Dana looks just the same, though. She married her high school sweetheart, Eddie, and he still looks the same, too! (FYI, Eddie's brother was my first kiss.) The next morning, Alan indulged me as I drove us around to look at my High School, etc... It was a fun side trip. Our hotel was right on the harbor. It was fantastic sleeping with our balcony door open and feeling/smelling that ocean breeze. But, I was rudely awakened by the loud bark of a pelican. I'll take it...that ocean breeze and the sound of the waves if worth it.
We thought Lilly would like the ocean. One of her favorite books is called "Waves" by Suzy Lee. It has beautiful illustrations, no words, of the shore, waves, seashells, etc... Lilly really loves this book and so I thought seeing the ocean would be like seeing a celebrity for Lilly. No way. Lilly was not a fan of the waves. The experience was terrifying for her. Max loved the sand, water, waves, sand...digging in the sand, finding new places to hide the sand on his body, etc...

Lilly liked waving at the waves...specifically, "good-bye"!

I was so glad you made Ventura apart of your So. Cal trip. It was fun to catch up and visit with you. Sounds like the rest of your trip went well. I love the beach pictures... especially the writing in the sand ones, very romantic. Come visit again soon!

Love all the pictures. I love the ocean, and love seeing the kids playing in the SAND not the water. Lilly is so funny.

How fun! The San Diego temple has always been my favorite. I wanted to get married there but that would have been a little silly since both Brian& I are from SLC. So as a parting gift he took me to San Diego on our HOneymoon so we could go to the temple and then forgot his recommend in his tux pocket. We'll make it back one day. Glad you had a good time, we missed you at scrapbooking.
