We don't normally do a lot for April Fool's. (I have chuckled at your comments re: my last post.) We called Dad (Alan) and told him Max had broken his arm...but from the back, Max, confused, was yelling loudly "No I didn't! What are you talking about?" Later, I was retelling that story to someone and we were chuckling at Max's confusion. Max was listening and had a little smile and then he got serious. "Oh Mom, did you know I won the Nobel Prize?" We all laughed. "I'm serious. Really. I won the Nobel Prize." "What did you win it for, Max?" "Counting money. I won at my school for that, too." Funny boy.
I got the idea for dinner off some news program. We made sheperds pie...with beet juice infused mashed potatoes. It looked so much like a cream pie. (The picture of the pie was taken before I baked it.) We fooled Alan. We had it sitting on a pie plate when he got home from work. (He actually thought it was a "pink cookie" pie. Good idea, huh?) For dessert I made spaghetti (cupcakes). I piped frosting strings on the cupcakes and then put a ferrer roche chocolate (is that how you spell it?) on top (it looks just like a meatball!) Then we topped it off with smashed pie cherries. Grated white chocolate looked like parmesan. Isn't that cute? At dinner I had the dessert served first with the pie sitting in the middle of the table on the pie plate. Max could tell the spaghetti was really cupcakes. I thought he would beg to eat those first. But he was so excited to surprise Dad with what the cream pie ACTUALLY was that he blurted out "I MUST eat pie first! Please, let me have some pie Mom!" Alan got a kick out of that. It was fun.
