Glad to be home after 5 days at Disneyland. We happened to go during the hottest week on record! Apparently it broke all sorts of records. Mind you, we choose this time of year so we can enjoy cooler weather. Best laid plans... On Monday, our first day there, it was 113 degrees. No joke. We were so hot. Thinking we'd survived the hottest of weather on Monday (since Tuesday was supposed to be around 95 degrees) we were shocked to awaken to a most humid day Tuesday (and every day following!) I don't think we stopped dripping sweat the entire time! After the mildest summer on record they sure made up for it the week we chose to visit! I'm not complaining, though. Simply documenting. We had a fabulous time!
We are getting to an interesting time in our kid's ages. Max is getting too old to enjoy Dumbo or Small World. Lilly is too little to ride the "big" rides that Max now loves. Max would have been happy to stay on the giant roller coaster or Tower of Terror the whole time. There were two exceptions. Lilly found she loved the rockets and the big Ferris Wheel with the moving gondolas. I tried those moving gondolas once and left the ride crying. It is completely terrorizing to me! Max loves them but Lilly screamed with delight the entire time. Begging Alan to make the gravity driven cages swing higher and longer. Max begged Alan to stop making them move so much. Lilly also loved Dumbo, Small World and the carousel. In fact, we had to use the carousel as a dangling carrot to get good behavior out of Miss Lil. She can be trouble. (I don't know if I've mentioned that before.) She didn't get to ride the carousel til day three. Now that may seem mean. But believe me, it was all that saved us. One such head shaking, stomach acid inducing incident included an all out sprint to stop her from invading an off-limit area of the park, reserved only for "cast members." I failed and she got in. Even as she was told she had to leave, she ran, darting in and out, steering clear of the hands (mine and a Disney employee's) that were trying to grab her. The whole time wearing a slightly devilish smile and laughing gleefully when she evaded our grips. I finally caught her since we were able to corner her and she screamed for the half a mile I had to walk back to the stroller. Now buckled in, she screamed for a good 15 minutes. Once, hearing someone else's child screaming, a young person in line ahead of us said, "I don't understand why any kid would be screaming at Disneyland!" Alan and I just looked at each other with a knowing smile. Oh they'll understand someday. Unless they never have children...then they can ignorantly go on, unaware...judging those of us that have been...er, um... enlightened.
Max remained consistent in his dislike of the characters coming to close to him. Lilly liked meeting most, not all, but was thrilled to meet Snow White, her favorite princess.
All in all, a fun time. Sad to leave. Happy to be home.

The funny things people say. My favorite comes from an annoyed parent whose child is crying. They say, "I paid a lot of money for you to get in here. Now stop crying!"
I think I'd want to cry at 113 degrees, with few places to sit or enough shade and have to wait in line for Dumbo. Glad you got to get away :)
September through Christmas is my favorite time at Disney!
Oh, how I am now DYING to go to Disneyland! I remember taking Taylor for her first time when she was 5 - we went in October. We had weather in the high 90's. It was insane! So glad you had a great time. Life will never be boring with your sweet Lily around! And have I mentioned I absolutely adore her?!?
How fun! We went in April and the weather was great....sorry you missed it :)
I think people that say things like that are cursing themselves for the most terrifying children! ha ha ha evil laugh!
Sounds like you guys had fun (mostly)! Good to know about the weather. I was thinking it would be cooling off by now, but I guess not! That's hot!
We haven't been to Disneyland yet during Halloween time - it sounds like such fun! Except the hot weather. I love the cute pictures!
