moody

We went to the county fair in Riverton this evening. Max protested. He didn't want to leave his playstation and an ongoing battle with Dad...something about Star Wars and clones. We dragged him along. Once there, Lilly begged and begged to ride the horses. She does that at Smith's grocery, too.(see exhibit 'A') Once I put her on, though, she screams like her life is in immediate danger and I have forced her to ride the metal, musical beast. She insisted that she wanted to ride these live ponies so we gave it a shot. The men running the ride were so nice and assured me that if she gave a fit, and refused to ride, they would give me my money back. I approached the horse, "Little Slow Joe" was his name, and Lilly started screaming. She was scrambling inward, toward my body, clinging so tight. "No. Those horses!" she said, pointing backwards toward the carousel across the way. Well, it was too late. I was putting her on the horse as I realized I had misunderstood. The horse didn't seem to mind the screaming. Lilly sat, frozen, but screaming. It didn't take many rounds of the horses for her mood to change. It happened more quickly than I had anticipated. To tell you the truth, I didn't think she would stop screaming at all! It was quite surprising, though, to see how quickly her tears turned to a smile and wave!
She was proud that she had rode the horsey. After that, we got Max and Lilly sno-cones. As Max downed his "toxic waste" flavored snowie he looked up at me and wisely declared "I am glad you made me come to the fair. I forget how many things make it worth while."
Glad to oblige.

A beautiful analogy of life. We scream, shed big tears, and then smile 'cause we know everything will be all right.

And then we eat a snow cone.

I love how the tears melt into a big smile and wave. WTG Lilly!

PS Max, Thirdborn's fave snow cone flavor is toxic waste, too.

Afton just saw the pictures and asked why we never see you. One of these days I will make my way down for a visit.
